My birth name is Camellia Rosemary. My Aunt Helen convinced my mother to name me Camellia because my mom loved the flower. It's not my favorite because people end up calling me Cam, Cammie, Camille because they can't remember my name. I'm about to turn 70 and have decide to start going by Rosemary.
Names.. mine, according to family story goes like this;
My parents found my name in a baby book. Its meaing: Little one who flies on wings of peace, love, and happiness. Volante being a fairly large name for a kid and one many teachers butchered, I used Teena instead. My grandma gave me the nickname, spelled just like that, meaning little one. So in essence it's a shortened version of my given name. I almost never go by it anymore tho, except by family. So it takes a hot minute before I realize im being called lol!
I was named after my dad's dad, James. While I hated it at first, being able to respell and configure it how I prefer it, makes it easier to deal with.
I was told the my dad wanted to name me Diane or Diana, after his baby sister who passed in infancy. But my mom was having none of that. Whether it was pure spite or just wanting to break tradition of naming after family...I couldn't say. Though that tradition had been broken by her siblings long before I came along.
She (my mom) was a big Elvis fan. Her plan was to name me Lisa Marie after his daughter. But a week before I decided to make my appearance, her friend gave birth to her own daughter who she named Lisa Marie. My mother was furious or at least upset that her friend did this. I can't say if her friend knew her intentions or not. Obviously, she kept Lisa for my first name. And my middle name is the same as my mom's. She didn't want to think about coming up with a middle name so that's what she did.
I the first grade, my best friend was Mary Anne Meeks...until she moved away to New Jersey and I never saw her again. Before that though, being besties and all, seeing as we had the same middle name she wanted it to be exactly the same. So I tried adding the "E", until my mother saw it and flipped her lid over it. So buh-bye "E" from my middle name. I was sad for a short time, but my mom just didn't get it.
When I discovered the "Little House" books and series, I wished my name was Elizabeth. But of course, that wasn't allowed either.
In high school, a small group of friends sometimes called me Lee. Since there were 3 of us named Lisa, it was probably necessary LOL
In that world where defeating the Lich King was a weekly thing, now it's Gallywix, stealing candles from Kobolds is a thing, as is beating up murlocs for their fins...I've acquired the nickname Ellie (after my main character that I've played for years). I do have a few "Lizzy" variations.
Call me Lisa, call me Ellie, call me Elle...I answer to one of them no doubt.
